Inherently Different

Republican’ts

I’ve got a number of hard core republican friends. I try to avoid discussions about politics or religion with them because we share completely different opinions. A few weeks ago, in talking to one of them we got on the subject of Cliven Bundy… In case you’re unaware, good ol’ Cliven Bundy is a rancher in Nevada who sort of had a standoff with the Bureau of Land Management and the government over grazing fees for government lands. Cliven believed his family owned the land and he refused to pay the government for the use of that land, and the government disagreed. This lead to the government attempting to round up his cattle. This of course riled up some of the more republican members of the local populace and they protested… with assault and hunting rifles. Thankfully no one was hurt and the round up was cancelled.

My buddy seems to think it was another example of the government trying to infringe upon American freedom. I explained that it was nothing more than a man who refused to pay for fair use and had nothing to do with “patriotism” or “American” liberties, but… being a gun-toting, god fearing, obama hatin’ Republican, he said it was indeed the “socialist president trying to enslave the American people,” and nothing I could say would change his mind.

I really just thought that Cliven Bundy was just another piece of shit in a long line of cattle barons who wanted to protect his profit at all costs… and Cliven Bundy has helped me prove the point by comments he made to the New York Times on wednesday…

“I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro,” he said. Mr. Bundy recalled driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, “and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids — and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch — they didn’t have nothing to do. They didn’t have nothing for their kids to do. They didn’t have nothing for their young girls to do.

“And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do?” he asked. “They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.”

I was off by one adjective though… he’s not just a piece of shit… he’s a RACIST piece of shit… Course, my buddy will probably explain that the New York Times is just a haven for socialist propaganda and this god fearing patriot is being misquoted… that’s one of the perks of being republican i guess… you can simply blame any bad press on the socialist media machine and call it a day…
