Music has always been a major inspiration for me. I like all kinds of music, but clearly my tastes run toward punk and metal with some industrial thrown in for good measure. If I’m writing, chances are I am listening to something dark and heavy such as Nine Inch Nails or Prodigy. When I am just hanging out though, I prefer lighter fare.
Living on Maui means having to give up on hearing some of my favorite bands on the radio since the local music scene leans toward traditional hawaiian music or ripoffs of reggae by local hawaiian bands. It is ugly and bodes ill for anyone who likes music OTHER than island or reggae.
One band that is bucking the trend to a certain extent is The Throwdowns. The Red Queen and I were walking past Kalama Park and heard them playing a free concert. We stopped off and listened to a few of their songs and enjoyed what we heard. They’re apparently gaining quite a following and considering there are no alternative or rock stations on this island, that’s saying a lot.
I’ll see if I can find some of their music to post up.
Haha… for someone (me) who lives in um… the very hot desert… and the suburbs you have no idea how awesome that sounds. “I was on a casual, pleasant stroll with my beautiful QUEEN in PARADISE, because I LIVE THERE, and I came upon a FREE concert, and the music was GREAT.”
Count your blessings, Ed. And yea, post some of that, I want to hear. 🙂
Please share – I love good music, especially small and undiscovered bands. But no Tiny Bubbles… please!
